The sailing press begin to embrace the w2n project and it is at last getting some media exposure.

I contacted a number of journalists and organisations working within the sailing fraternity in an effort to try and get some media exposure for the project. What the immediate response lacked in volume, it certainly made up for in enthusiasm. Significantly though, the most encouraging response was from Yachting Monthly who called me with a number of suggestions and a conditional pledge of support. I’ve yet to discuss the details although they are going to publish an article in April’s edition and have talked about possible ongoing coverage. As with any media exposure, not only should this encourage public participation but should make an enormous contribution to the search for sponsorship of gear and equipment that’ll help with the project funding. Yachting Monthly was responsible for the recent Gipsy Moth IV refit and circumnavigation timed to celebrate 40 years since Sir Francis Chichester returned from his record-breaking solo, one-stop round the world voyage. As such, they have already clearly demonstrated the power of the media in all aspects of project management and having them on board in any capacity will be a huge boost.
